Read more Access to clean water is an important human need. This water is used for drinking, cooking,
washing and ensuring we have a clean environment. Water remains a scarce resource in many
parts of Nigeria. Women bear the brunt of this scarcity as they are forced to walk long
distances in search of clean water. For women, time is lost that could have been spent with
their families providing adequate care for their children or even for economic activity. For
girls, time is lost that would have been used for academic development.
This
intervention contributes to the Sustainable Development Goals on water and sanitation to the
extent that each household will spend less than 10 minutes for a round trip of water
collection and therefore save valuable time. Girls in particular are less exposed to the
risks of going to rivers and streams to collect water.
We aim to dig boreholes
in various communities to make available water for their use. We engage community leaders
and members to determine locations for drilling these boreholes. This takes into account
many factors including ease of access and the number of households served. We engage the
services of professional companies who drill the boreholes to the desired levels and provide
the equipment to make them functional.
