Read more Education is an equalizing factor and can be used as a tool for breaking the vicious cycle
of poverty. Quality education in childhood provides the foundation for skills development
and participation in economic activity.
Due to a variety of challenges, many
children in rural communities in Nigeria are unable to access quality education. Their
schools are poorly equipped and not adequately staffed with competent teachers. These
schools lack basic infrastructures such as classrooms, furniture and sanitary facilities.
Academic materials such as textbooks where available are shared among many children.
The most vulnerable children are often left out of schooling or have to go
through a variety of challenges just to get educated. These are mostly orphaned children or
those whose parents are so poor that they are unable to meet their basic school needs. It is
common to find children from less privileged homes taking on manual jobs just to help pay
their school fees or meet other academic requirements.
With support from our
sponsors, Caring Hands for Africa works with schools to improve their capacity to provide
quality education. We also offer sponsorship to indigent students. This sponsorship pays for
tuition and other school requirements of the child.
As a policy, we support
these children up to the completion of their secondary school education. Sponsors are
however free to continue engaging with their sponsored children beyond this point.
